Otovalo Market and so much shopping!

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Saturday morning we took a two hour bus north of Quito to Otovalo to visit one of the most famous markets in South America. It was great, it was huge and colourful and really pretty reasonable, but I´m still not sure why it is one of the most important, it is pretty much all tourist stuff and not even particularly hand made, pretty bulk stuff judging from the repetition on the stalls.

That said, we did manage to do some souvineer shopping, I mean who can turn down an Alaca blanket for $12!?

We returned to Quito pretty exhausted at about 6pm, but still managed to trash a couple of Ozzies at pool (well Paul did, I don´t think I was a massive asset to the team). We then went out to Cafe Sutra for dinner and a few beers, really nice greek plata, hummus and veggies. It was a great chilled out place and the first time I´ve felt up to a few beers in a while.

Brief health check for you then…by stomach seems to be better now, although I still can´t eat that much. I have now developed a wraching chesty cough and a stinking head cold so I am now in about week three of feeling generally crappy. Can´t wait to get to Isabela now and just relax in one place. Tucky is being very patient with me though and mmy need for early nights – I am really lame at the moment!
