Belgrano Memorial, Rosario

Originally uploaded by kathsmee.

From Santa Fe we took a longer than planned (due to the flooding) route to Rosario where cockroaches go to die and mosquitoes go to dine out. Quite a nice city really apart from that, its the place where Che was born (although surprisingly little made of that), it is the place where the National flag was designed, there is lots of interesting colonial architecture and stuff and of course there is the obligatory Isla Malvinas (Falklands) memorial which every Argentine town has. It is amazing actually that in every Argentine town there are memorials to those lost in the war and signs proclaiming the islands to be Argentinean, yet in England we barely register them. It was odd to be in Argentina (in Mendoza) on the 25th Anniversary of the war, it is a national holiday and a day for Britain’s to keep their heads down.

Took a tour around Rosario city and out to yet more Jesuit ruins which was really quite interesting with a proper guide, although I think that really is my last Jesuitness for a good long while. I seem to be saying “it was quite a nice city” about everywhere at the moment, maybe I am being spoilt by the chance to visit all of these places… must learn to appreciate the experiences more.
