Where's the magic?

Here I am in Cøpenhagen at Sleep in Heaven hostel, which I didnt like before, but the vibe is improving. When I got here yesterday it was pouring raing and I was so tired. Basically I walked around for a while and then got completely lost before making my way back to the hostel. I stopped in at a friendly record store, which made me feel better about being lost. I had high expectations for copenhagen though which might explain why I dont really feel at home here, or that impressed with the general feel of the city.

An aussie at the hostel in Stockholm said her boyfriend loved copenhagen, and another girl was raving about how beautiful the people were in copenhagen. Hmm. I think I came here expecting too much. The people are beautiful, but not so much more beautiful than the people in stockholm or finland. Maybe they are just more diverse here. I slept in today and then met an american girl (Kay) who I walked around the city with today. We saw a lot of the city, but it just doesnt seem to be that intriguing. I really felt at home in stockholm, but not here. I think if I lived here, I could really get into the city, but its way too much and too closed feeling for a two day visit. There is amazing architecture here. mostly new, but very cool. We saw these really cold looking apartments that seem to be highly sought after. We also wandered into Christiania which was kind of weird, but interesting. There were little booths selling cakes of hashish and stray dogs everywhere. It was strange stumbling into that place, lots of tourists wandering around and looking totally out of place. There was a big sign forbidding photography, which really made me want to take a photo or two, but I restrained myself.
I love all the murals on the city walls. Its quite neat and helps break the general monotony of the buildings which are mostly red brick. Some of the city was quite beautiful, but most of it was just flat fronted buildings on these cobble stone roads, which was beautiful in itself, but there was just so much of it, it felt like being trapped in a maze.
Maybe I just have a bad attitude about being here becuase I had such a fantastic time in Stockholm, Turku and Jyaskyla and now I am ending the scandinavian part of my adventures. I will definetly be back. Maybe not to Copenhagen though.
Anways, I need to go to bed so that I will be awake tomorrow. I am finally meeting up with Coryna and it will be wierd to be back in the UK.
Ciao

Hey Liz! I'm so jealous of that trip - it sounds like a blast overall. My dad was in copenhagen recently and I remember hearing about that... interesting part of town - it's illegal for any of them to even be on that land, yet there's this whole community there! HOpe all continues to go well. And take me with you next time! love, Rebecca
