Merry Christmas!

IT'S CHRISTMAS EVE!!! I am very excited. I slept in late, then watched a bit of Phoenix Nights (some classic brit comedy) with Pat and Laura down in reception, and then I went looking for rye bread in the town centre. I havent been updating this lately becuase I havent been leaving the hostel that much becuase of my cold. Here I am though. I couldnt find any rye bread unfortunetly. Only one bakery even makes it, and they were sold out, BUT I found a nice loaf of pumpernickel, so I am satisfied. I made my grandpa's swedish gingerbread yesterday, and even though they dont look quite right, they taste like the real thing. This afternoon I will attempt to make sill salad. Yesterday I bought all the pickled herring Safeway had just so I could make the salad. That sounds like a lot of pickled herring, but really it wasnt.

Coryna is coming over when she is done work and we are going to eat and eat and eat. She dropped off her cabbage rolls and perogies this morning and I will pick up some more cranberry juice on the way home. Its strange to be away from home and family for christmas, but I am having fun anyways. My room is decorated and my stocking is hung.
and I just realized that I am missing 'The Snowman' on BBC2...
Other than christmas, things have been quite quiet on the Inverness front. I have been having a week of injuries though, so I havent been working at the restaurant. There are hardly any visitors at the hostel now, so the cleaning has been a breeze, and Ive done a few extra night shifts to cover for charlie the regular night porter. All in all its been a relaxing last couple weeks.
I just bought my bus tickets to Edinburgh and I fly out to dublin on the 29th! I am very excited. My accomodation is booked, so all I have to do is get there now. As long as I dont get snowed in here. So far so good, the last snowfall is all melted now, so fingers crossed, I will be able to get to dublin.
Ok, I am heading back to the hostel, I have a lot of pickled beets, pickled herring, apples and ham to cut up for the sill salad.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Hi and Merry Christmas,
The feast sounds great but tell me there is some turkey, I mean goose out there for you. We just got back from Jina's Mum's house. Two days (thats 48 hours or 1/2 a lifetime to you and me )of 3 X 80 year olds with 1) Weak memory, 2) Deaf 3) Grumpy old man/woman syndrome.

Every 1/2 hour they felt a strong need for a frantic search for our cats We called it safari time .One of the aunts went to bed and forgot to take out her bottom teeth, woke up with them stuck to her bum and almost stepped on them when they fell off. The same Aunt lives at "The Lodge" where one of her 102 year old fellow inmates thought she was a man and demanded proof that she wasn't - ie a firm demand she be allowed to feel her boobs to see if she was in fact a woman.
We unpluged the phone at midnight Xmas eve so we could all get a good sleep. In the morning Jina and I woke to :

Aunt- "Dial 604...."
Mum- " I can't get a dial tone!?"
Aunt- " Then dial 605

Anyway you get the idea. I should shut up because you will be writing simalar E-mails about us in a couple of years.

Sounds like you are having a great adventure. See you soon.

Lots of love Jay

Here's Jina...

Hi Lizzi!! - What a Christmas!!!!
Thank heavens for 1m piece jigsaw puzzles (don't think we would have made it without)...
You truely are having a great adventure aren't you? And it sounds like you have lots of good friends around...is this the first Xmas away from the fam? Dublin for New Years? Look forward to hearing about that!!
No snow on the home front yet but temps are getting down there again so maybe for New Years; which we plan to spend with friends up Indian Arm on their 43' Tolly...should be good fun.
Missed out on seeing Gran, Ian, and Sue last weekend at Tony & Kay's(sickos), so are planning a weekend visit in a few weeks to make up.
I'm in holiday heaven - not back to work until the 5th. Unfortunately Jay has been working pretty much all the way through. He got us tix to the John Mayer concert in Feb for Xmas...can't wait!
Well, gotta go stoke the fire - stay well, be safe and happy and have a fabulous New Year -
Love you & miss you
