on my way home

I am just outside London today, staying at Jackie's house until my flight back to Canada. The last few days have been quite a rush getting from Nissiros to Athens, Athens to London, London to Inverness and then back to London again.
I've spent too much time sitting in airports. Coryna and I also tallied up our hours of sleep and in three days I had 13 and she'd had 31 1/2... Guess who felt better...

I am not quite sure where I left off with the last entry, but we stayed quite a few days on Rhodes becuase the people were so great and the weather was fantastic - except for one night when we woke up to Mike shouting and throwing our things on top of the wardrobe becuase it was pouring rain and all our belongings were getting soaked from the water coming in through the window...
There were a couple more nights on the roof with singing and Mike got out his Bouzouki for us and played, and the Danish boys rapped a little bit more. We did a trivia night at our adopted local pub the 'Walk Inn' and played some charades. We left on a friday I think and took a ferry to Kos.
When we got off the ferry, we were met by an old woman and her husband and brother who herded us to their pension to stay. They also told us not to tell anyone that they had met us at the ferry terminal as this is illegal and they didnt want a fine. We crashed out on the beds for a few hours and then went wandering around the city. We ate a Macdonalds after a bad experience with stuffed squid the day before and were pleasantly surprised. The Macdonalds on Kos has to be the best Macdonalds in the world. Everything we were served looked exactly like the pictures and there WAS NO GREASE!
The next day we were lounging in the sun by the harbour and the Mikkel and Anders -the danish boys- showed up. They had been found by the same trio of senior citizens and were staying in the room above ours. They went to see the Hippocrates tree and shaun, coryna and I went to try and rent mopeds, but to no avail. Mostly the men in the rental shops just laughed at our drivers liscences and refused to rent us scooters, but offered us bikes and cars. We tried to explain our problem to Mikkel and Anders later, but they also laughed when they saw our drivers lisences. Oh well.
We went out dancing that night and didnt get back until about 3, which gave us a good 45 minutes sleep before we had to be on our next ferry to Nissiros. We frantically packed and tried to wake up the danes, got to the boat and really didnt expect to see them, but they managed to make it just in time.
On Nissiros, we went to see the main attraction, which is a dormant volcano, and also one of the worst smelling things ever. The sulfurous fumes drift up out of the massive greyish-yellow hole and are nauseating. The volcano was amazing to see however, and we got lots of pictures. Other than that, Nissiros was very quiet. We were there on a sunday and everything was closed, so we spent some time sleeping in the sun and getting ready for the 16 hour ferry ride back to Athens. We said goodbye to Mikkel and Anders and got some seats on the ferry.
We got to Athens in the morning and went into the city centre. We decided to walk to the acropolis, but by the time we made it to the first metro station, we were exhausted and just grabbed a train to the top. The acropolis was amazing and the view of Athens from the top is phenomonal. We took in as much as we could and then had something to eat and went to the airport for the night.
We said goodbye to Shaun around 4am and then checked into our own flight, which we mostly slept through. Then Coryna and I had the day at Luton until our flight to inverness. We played a lot of cards.
I spent one night in Inverness and had time to pack my things and say goodbye to everyone and I spent last night on the overnight sleeper train to London.
So thats all thats happened lately and I will be home may 2. I am looking forward to seeing everyone!
