Litter Picking

I had an easy cleaning shift at the hostel today. I only had 2 rooms to clean and the downstairs part of the hostel, so I was sent outside to collect litter. I had a broom handle with a nail on the bottom which would have been nice, except I seem to lack hand/eye co-ordination and after 6 or 7 stabs at a piece of litter, I usually had to give up and just pick it up with my hands.

There were a lot of pens and a few homework assignments that the kids in the school next door had thrown over the fence. I also found 3 cases of empty beer cans at the top of the hill and stung my wrists on the stinging nettle bushes growing around the empties. After bringing the garbage back, I went in search of a 'bock' (?) leaf. Im not exactly sure what it's called, but one of the girls working at the hostel said to find one of these leaves, fold it up and spit on it and rub it over the sting. The leaves only grow near the nettles however, so I went back up the hill for a second round of stinging nettles vs. wrists. I couldnt find any of the leaves, and gave up to go back to the hostel - falling down the hill on my way there.
That was my biggest adventure this week. I also have to work during dinner at the restaurant tomorrow, and I am quite nervous. Yesterday the kitchen porter didnt come to work and there were arguments between the upstairs waiting staff and the cooks about who was going to do the dishes. The cooks lost, but somehow I was duped into going upstairs and helped put away the clean ones. Perhaps it is because I bought the wrong bread and had to go back to marks and spencer's twice to get new bread and get refunds for the wrong loaves. Ah the trials of working in a restaurant. Thankfully, no more people slapping each other or asking me if their spoons are for their soup...
Ok ta ta for now!

We've got Burl Ives on and we're doing a little christmas decorating. A very stormy rainy evening is blowing outside - power out earlier. Al is now officially in the pipe band and working on his steady drone - man is he good at it!!

Hi liz, i think our furry little friends are back! i saw one scurry across the living room floor, you think living with boys they would be heros and try and get rid of them, but they are apathetic, (or as scared as me). i found 2 good songs called 'santa's gonna come in a pickup truck' and another called 'leroy the redneck raindeer' i think they would be appropriate for a 'very merville christmas'. hope everything is going well. i hate school.

Hey Liz, hope all the christmas decorations have been going well. Things are good here, I am the yatzee champion of the house! otherwise everything is good, i just finished my christmas shopping. i saw the elf movie - Buddy the Elf! Whats your favourite colour? Catherine and I sang in church - it was just going to be the two of us, but then she got chicken and invited everyone else to sing, which was grand - Carl laughed that the guitar was drowned out. The new Pastor they have is really good, kinda like a younger Ole. Miss you!
