September 11, 2003The Scam
I spent a long time walking around today (I am including the email I wrote to my grandma becuase it is a good description of what I saw, and i am too lazy to type it out twice.) Then I came home and hung out with a bunch of other travellers. we were waiting for "david from CNN" to show up. what a scam. This guy phoned the hostel all day yesterday trying to get canadians and americans to do this interview with him. He talked to a bunch of us on the phone... He talked to a bunch of us on the phone individually and we all had different stories. I talked to him twice. The first time, he was practically incoherent, and the second time he sounded normal. His voice was like that actor. the guy who plays the male nurse in magnolia and he is also in boogie nights and he was the pompous fat rich friend in the talented mr ripley. they guy who gets hit on the head with a bust by matt damon. anyways, he told me that he would give 500 american dollars to each of us if we did the interview which he told me would be about 9/11. He told one of the other canadians that he would give him 500 euro for the interview which would be about travelling experiences. anyways, we were all a bit suspicious, but 500 dollars/euros and sandwiches (he also promised sandwiches) was enough to get us all in the hostel waiting for him at 4:00. he never showed up. we had a lot of different theories, but he never showed. interesting. but if he was going to give us each 500 dollars, imagine the amount of cash he would have to bring with him. whatever. I met a lot of people becuase of it. two guys from BC, a guy from the states, two swiss travellers, some germans, the list goes on. i am having a really good time and I really like stockholm. One of the canadians I met here told me to try the generator hostel in london for work and he said the one in berlin is always looking for staff as well, so I will check in there when I get to london and hopefully they hire me. Apparently the give free food and accomodation in exchange for 2 14 hour days a week. the rest of the week you can do whatever. sounds good to me for food and accomodation. I have a bunch of postcards to send, but no stamps yet. so far I have 2 rolls of film full and half a disposable camera full. thats only after 4 days. all scenery though, so deadly boring. The email to grandma I really like stockholm and I think i might come back through here on my way back to copenhagen. I will try to look up grandpa's brother then. the hostel I am at is really really friendly and it feels like home! well, I will email you again when I get to finland! Comments
