Not too much longer until Sept. 5! That is my date to fly out. Hopefully all goes smoothly and there are no more power outages in Toronto... I plan on flying from London to Copenhagen and then taking a train to Oskarshamn (in Sweden) and going by boat to Gotland where I will camp for a while. Im not sure how many days I will be camping, so I guess I will play it by ear.

I got home today from my practice camping trip on Mt. Washington in Strathcona Park. My friend Catherine and I decided at the last minute to hike out to Lake Helen McKenzie and make sure that my camping gear was functional. We had a blast. The hike to the lake took us an hour and the weather was beautiful. When we got to the camping area, there werent many people camping yet and we set up our tents in record time, which was surprising. My tent is tiny though and requires a diagonal sleeping arrangement. I also realized that I need to invest in a sleeping mat and maybe even a travel pillow. I'm a little stiff from the wooden platform, but it was a good trail run for my gear.
The lake was gorgeous and I love the alpine forests. We saw a bunch of frogs or maybe toads... and a lot of fish jumping in the evening. The whiskey jacks were all over the tents as soon as they saw us eating and kept flying down to try and pick up crumbs. This morning the helicopter was flying out the barrels from the pit toilets, so we had a little mid-morning entertainment.
There was a very loud and inconsiderate family staying at the lake unfortunetly and their dog did not like people. When the ranger stopped by in the morning to collect fees, the dog just about jumped him, and the mother was very vocal explaining to me how she thought it was too difficult to get to the water's edge and how the pit toilets were horrible and disgusting. Hopefully they saw the condos further down the mountain on their way home...
I bought some good shoes today and another guide book. I need to stop buying guide books, but I just can't. Well, thats all for today. Only a week or so until I leave now!
