Spooky Sydney

In our mission to make Krys love Sydney, and also to get us out and about as cheaply as possible, we discovered a tour that we fancied doing. It's taken us a few weekends to get round to it - bad weather etc has put us off, but this weekend it was time to go for it... we dressed warm, wore sensible shoes, and went for our ghost tour... spooky!

We arrived at the meeting point in the Rocks all wrapped up and ready to go - and were met by our host. See those black crosses behind him? He's standing infront of Susannah Place, and they are left over from when the Black Plague came to Sydney. Apparently over a thousand were infected, but just over 100 died from it. the whole of the Rocks were sectioned off and through holes in the walls, people would poke their arms out to receive vaccinations.

This is not your usual pub, a little girl wanders the rooms upstairs and is frequently seen by the pub staff - apparently she fell to her death down the well that is still in the front of the pub today.

The pub on the left (the white building) is the site of a horrible murder. A sailor was stabbed there during a pub brawl, and he still roams through the building to this day. It's now a hotel - so if you fancy a chance of seeing the sailor, you have to be in room 8 - he only shows himself to girls on their own though.

Another pub, another murder. This is the Australian hotel - still very popular today - back in the 50's it was a smidgeon rougher and the site of many beatings and murders. The guy who was killed here apparently had it coming, and its one of those unsolved crimes that no-one seems to care about.

The Sydney bridge was built using convict labour - it took 10 years of solid work to get about half way through. Many died during the labour, and the next govenor of Sydney used dynamite to bast his way through in 10 days what had taken 10 years to complete the old fashioned way :oP many various sightings of convicts around there...

The observatory is the home of a sad little boy who is always seen to be upset and crying. He was a 6yr old boy who was signed up to be working on the ships that left from Sydney and went all over the world. Apparently it was very desirable to send your child off to sea. Not only did you not have to clothe and feed him for 6 months while he was away, but when he returned he would bring much needed money into the house with him. This young boy was out in the Rocks for a night out on shoreleave and ended up being beaten to death by some sailors. Not surprised he's upset really.

We also went to the gardens where the law lords had trees planted so they could hang convicted convicts when they grew (forward planning or what?) anyway - this place is where most people see ghostly images, branches moving etc... none of my pictures turned out, but thats less spooky and more to do with the fact it was very very dark up there :o)

It was a fab night, and I'd recomment it to anyone - we went to many more locations, and heard many stories - just in time to finish at about 10 and go home to bed... sweet dreams!
