Cataract Gorge, Penguin and Stanley

The gorge is stunning. In fact, it's worth getting up early for (and that's saying something!)

Despite getting up bright and early (or maybe because of it) we were feeling deeply lazy, so we opted for the chairlift option instead of the wander through the gorge. I have to say that despite not doing the walk at all (not even a little bit!) I think we chose the right option.

The views there are absolutly stunning - check them out:

There were heaps of cute and fluffy animals there too - check out the 'roo with its joey in it's pouch. Stopping for brekkie we saw this disclaimer and immediatly had predatory peacocks stalking us for toast. Quite freaky actually - like Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, but prettier :oP

After leaving the gorge we headed off on the road again towards our next destination for the evening - Stanley. Obviously it was going to be a long driving day (they all would, as we only had the a few days to try and cram as much of Taz into the long weekend as we could) but there was plenty for us to see along the way.

Batman's Bridge was guarenteed to make us stop. Alongside the roads, there is a lot of farmlands in Tas, and opium seems to be the crop of choice. Poppy Fields as far as the eye could see for mile after mile around the island. We flew into Hobart, but many people choose to take the ferry. It worked out cheaper for us to fly, but as we got to Devonport, I got to see the Spirit in the harbour.

Penguin is a little town with the best name ever. It's really pretty aswell, so we stopped for a while to have a miny-mooch about. Here are the pics: View image, View image, View image, View image.

The Nut in Stanley meant my second chair lift trip in a day. Considering I have never been on one before in my life, it was fast turning into a habit. I may never climb for a view again in my life! I love technology that lets you be lazy :oP
The views from the top of the town beneath would have been worth the climb though even without chair lifts!

All in all - another fantastic day!
