Getting up early, we decided to visit the Blowsands in Rainbow beach before loading up the car and beginning the road south again back to Sydney.

We'd reached over halfway in our road trip, and we now had to make good time back to Sydney so the girls could get their flight to New Zealand in plenty of time. It was a bit sad to realise we had hit the end of the road north, but we were coming back inland, so as not to repeat ourselves on the road, so still had a few more days of exploring left to look forward to.
The blowsands in Rainbow beach are a bit of sand where nothing has grown - in the middle of the hills surrounding the town and beach there is a big patch of sand. Apparently the locals slide down the dunes on cardboard. We didn't have any with us, and to be honest - the cliffs were pretty steep if you got too close, so we contented ourselves with a wander out to the edge and then back to the car to begin the journey south.
To make the time up for all the side trips we'd made, meant we had to have a long days drive. I think it took about 6 or 7 hours of driving to make it to the days end. Stopping for a loo break and a coffee in Gimpi was bizarre - children threw themselves in front of the car - dogs attacked us as we parked up at a local shop - the whole town was (to be honest) a bit freaky. We left as soon as we could and forgot all about wanting to stretch our legs.
Our stop for the night was in a pleasant town called Tenterfield. We went to the local club for what was probably the best steak I've had - way cheap aswell!
The memory card on my camera had run out just after leaving the blowsands that morning though - so no pics from today sorry.
After all that driving, we just kind of collapsed after dinner and all went back to the hotel to chill out with a couple of beers and an early night.
