Rainbow Beach

After roasting slowly the day before at the Australian Zoo, we decided to really dress for the weather at Rainbow Beach.

The apartment we were staying in was pure bliss - spa bath, gym and a swimming pool.
The night before, me and Sue had decided to get up early to see the sunrise. As we'd just gone past the most Easterly point on the mainland in Byron, we figured the view would be spectacular. We both just about managed to get up in time to see the most pathetic attempt at a sunrise you've ever seen. The clouds in the sky meant the day just kind of got brighter - there just wasn't really a sunrise at all. Still, it's the first time I've had a go at seeing one since I got to Oz, so I felt better having made the attempt.
We decided sod it and both went back to our comfy beds for a lie in.
Getting up the second time a few hours later, we realised that although the weather from the day before had been divine, it was going to be a grey and cloudy day. So much for our big plans of sunbaking on the beach!
Being optimistic and slightly determined to catch a bit of sun, we dressed for heat and went for a wander down to the beach.
The weather warmed up considerably, and by the time we'd been walking for about an hour, i was just a tad on the lobster shade of things. Luckily for you, there are no photos - I felt fine, but it LOOKED painfull!
We left our mark near the rainbow hills and then wandered slowly back - wading about in the sea.
The town itself was dinky - the people were so friendly though - after stopping at a roadside cafe for a coffee and slice of cake (this is the life I tells you) we ended up meeting most of the town. I was even offered work in one of the hostels. We had to keep moving though, or otherwise I'd have stayed there for a while - would probably still be there right now :o)
Check out this for a fancy loo. This country is full of unexpected things :oD
