Having spend the last few weeks freeloading in the city of churches, I thought it was about time I shared my feelings about it with you. First off, big thanks to Rob. T'were it not for him, I'd have been forced to move on from here ages ago. Let me tell you folks, Adelaide is NOT the place to be if you want to work... Nearly every day Im meeting other backpackers who are just not finding work either - and it's not like we're fussy ;o) I think I've timed it wrong - it seems in the summer there are a fair few jobs, but not this time of year. I love it here. The streets are wide and majestic. The buildings are (in majority) stately and fairly imposing. It's not called the city of churches for no good reason though: View image, View image. There are (free) museums, (free) art gallery and loads of other (free) stuff to do. Adelaide is the state capital of South Australia with a population of just over 1 million. The first free settled city in Australia, Adelaide is a very easy city to navigate. Surrounded on all sides by parkland and fields, the city has 4 boundaries. North, South, East and West Terraces mark off the centre of the city. A free bus goes round and round the square all day long. I jumped on one day and had a blast chatting away to an american lady. Like Melbourne, there is a bit of street art (though I have no idea why its pigs?) And, like all the places I have enjoyed the most so far - there is shopping!. Arcades and more arcades (check out the coat of arms up on the side of the arcade). Not only a city of churches, they seem quite fond of fountains aswell: Rundle Mall, and Victoria Square. I'll leave you with a few more views of stately Adelaide View image, View image. oooh - before I forget, here's a picture for those of you asking for one of a drive through off licence, or Bottle Shop Comments
