Pushkar

Puskar is a holy city - this means no eggs, meat or alcohol - how will I manage?

Quite easily, as it turns out :o) We arrived into Pushkar in the afternoon after one of those maniac bus drivers seemed hell bent on beating whatever personal best he had set for himself ;oP Sitting at the front of the bus was a novel and highly enjoyable experience. It was like being in the film Speed, once the bus was up to the limit, it didn't stop for anything. At a bus station, they paint the road signs onto the walls to remind the drivers of what to do :o) View image
Up to now, I have restricted my music for busrides to chilled and calming tunes, but for this one I decided to go with the CD Dawn made for me before I left - and it was perfect! By the way Dawn, I saw some monkeys at a stop - don't look! View image
Swerving and skidding to a halt, I unwedged my rucksack from the overhead storage and staggered from the bus...
The town of Puskar only really has the two main streets, and after heading out for a wander after unpacking (or throwing my stuff around the room) I had pretty much orientated myself. This would be the first place I have visited where I wouldnt be able to get lost (or so I thought)
After the sun had set, and dinner had been eaten we decided to head back to the hotel. Not as easy at night as in the day. After random turns through the back streets, we happened upon the local police station. After some discussion (and feeling like prats) we decided to bite the bullet and ask for directions. The 6 policemen in the office nearly had fits they were laughing so much, and called the hotel to get someone to meet us. I dont think they thought we were brigth enough to follow directions. It turned out we were about 3 minutes away from the hotel in a straight line... oh well - we got to interact with new people and have now seen the inside of a police station :o)
