Jodphur

Getting up early in the morning, we all headed to the fort palace of Jodphur high above the city...

Rising majestically above the city, the view of it the night before had been stunning from the hotel roof View image
The view the next morning from within the walls was even better View image The tour of the palace was with a little headset with a commentary that you could pick and choose from as you toured the fort. The city of Jodphur is known as the blue city. From the hight of the fort, it soon became clear why this was View image
The detail of carving of the walls of the palace are hard to show on pictures, but this close up shows the sort of detail, View image
now imagine it all over the walls - amazing!
Check out this for a living room View image
, and of course the bedroom View image
The Fort was amazing to visit, and took a good couple of hours to walk around. Displays in the museum included the seats they used to ride on elephants View image
(made of silver) and the palanquins View image
they would be carries around in along the streets. Now thats the life I should have been born into :oD
This excellent sign deserved a photo: View image
As did this - am man wearing jodphurs in Jodphur :o) View image
Walking back to the hotel, the sun hit the city at just the right shade to get this picture of the clue buildings... amazing! View image
The afternoon saw us wandering into the market place for a bit of lunch and to look for a wedding gift to take back tonight. View image
It turns out shopping for wedding gifts is a very tricky thing. You have to get the amount you spend just right, or it could insult. Imported goods are the best, but we had nothing with us that we could take. Our tour guide advised that instead of causing offense we should not take anything if we couldnt find the perfect gift - tricky!
(sidenote - along the way I found this shop and had to take a picture View image
- it seems so long ago that I was sitting at work and dreaming of India)
We searched all over the market View image
but found nothing, so resolved to going empty handed. Just before leaving for the evening, Lisa (the guide) advised that western looking sunglasses would be well recieved by the groom - hurrah! We had those, so we quickly wrapped them up and went off to the wedding. View image
Another excellent night. We had to leave early though and cry off dressing up, as the bus to Udaphur left at 8.30 the next morning.
