New Delhi

After a great nights sleep I felt ready to face the city. I headed out of the hotel for a miny mooch around the local area, just to get my bearings.

When I got back to the hotel after about half an hour, the guy on reception gave me a whole lecture about how dangerous the city is.. not what I wanted to hear, especially after all the warnings I got last night from helpfull people in the train station. With trepidation, I began to plan my wander fully around the local area. Luckily, within minutes of returning to the hotel, I bumped into a Kiwi who was also on his first full day in the city. We decided to brave the city together and within minutes were wandering around the back alleys of Karol Bagh. The city was so relaxed and cool - the locals were all friendly, and we cow spotted View image

we decided to wander the way they were headed to see what would happen and found a wedding party! View image
It was so colourful and fun we were swept up the street with the whole group of friends and family out to wish the groom luck on his way to the brides house.
4 hours after leaving the hotel we managed to navigate our way back without incident. We both loved the morning we spent out there, and by the end of the evening we had met up with the rest of our group and all swoped stories of out first days events in Delhi. After all the horror stories, everyone had had an excellent day, and we all felt totally relaxed in the city. We enjoyed a tasty South Indian meal together, and then went back to the hotel for a rooftop beer. Due to a festival the next day we were treated to a free firework display above the roof tops of New Delhi and spent a relaxing hour or so getting to know each other.
