old Delhi and another slow train

The itinerary for the day was to be up early (?) for a trip to Old Delhi and the afternoon trip on another slow train (overnight - 15hrs) to Jaislamer further east.

The morning wasn't too bad, I managed to get out of bed and downstairs in time for the trip into the city. A local bus was boarded, and off we went to explore. After the relaxing time in Karl Bagh yesterday, Old Delhi was a lot different. First there was the Jain temple, View image

where I was given a blessing by the priest: View image
and then onto the Sihk Temple (where I got to help make dinner for the open meal charity they run View image
) and finally a trip around the spice markets of the Old Town itself. View image

The smells were pretty much indescribable, but remain with me. The spices, the incense, the decay... they all mix together to give an aroma that is India to me. Through Mumbai to Delhi the smell of India is exotic and will stay with me forever.
The afternoon brought our glorious time in Delhi to an end and another slow train across India...
This time there was no frantic last minute dash to the station, we arrived with plenty of time to find our alloted bunks. In fact the train was 3 hours late... Traveling sleeper class was a bit different from the 3AC luxury I had met with before... Basically it was the same, but without the fans and the boys bringing round refreshments, but this time I was with company, so on the whole it was a lot better experience. After a funny few hours getting to know each other better (and entire conversations about sport) we settled down to a nights sleep. Tommorow afternoon would bring Jaislamer...
