The Plague

Heading in the direction of South Australia meant a long driving day with little stopping to get the miles out of the way. We didn't count on a plague of biblical proportions from Orange to Dubbo.

We spent a few hours in the early moring driving through nothing, Dawn got to see her first funky wildlife road signs and then we got stuck in a (no word of exageration) Biblical plague of Locusts. This little chap was with us for some time before we got rid of him.
Check out the front of TC's bumpers for bug kill - It was like driving through that screen saver of stars coming towards you. We had to have the windows shut as they were coming into the car.
Filling TC up at a garage we spoke to the attendant who said the plague usually only lasts for 2 weeks, but has been the the longest and the worst he had lived through yet. I can imagine. We drove through them for about 4 hours all together - and they didn't let up at all.

The drive through to South Australia was very different from the last time I made it in July. It was the middle of winter then, but this time it was summer, and the creeks were dried up and the whole countryside looked different. South Australia is the driest state in the driest continent in the world (little bit of information for you there) and you can see why.
Dawn also got to see fer first road kill (no photos for you on that front) - the first dozen or so kangaroos we saw were all a bit squished on the road side.

Urgh!

Just managed to get into your blog - internet has been down for a while. Again, great pics (the views from your flat are fab - I don't remember Bondi being like that!) Can't wait to read more. S
