Wingham - Woolgoolga

Arriving in Wingham in the dark, we decided the ideal thing would be a nice cool beer.

Luckily the pub in Wingham was also a Hotel offering cheap accomodation, so our eveing in town consisted of a take away from the pasta / piza / steak shop across the road, and a few beers while watching the big tv and chatting to a few of the locals.
Getting up the next morning gave us our first chance to check this town out in the daylight. Wingham is a lovely quiet little town with a high street (where the girls did a bit of shopping) and a lovely central square.
After using the internet for a bit (and me blogging about the last road trip from Adelaide to Sydney) we had a spot of brunch and headed out to our next stop for the journey. Woolgoolga was only a fairly short drive away, and after the late driving of the day before, we fancied something fairly nearby (I for one didn't like the idea of driving after dark as the 'roos seem to be most active in dusk, dawn and after dark. After already hitting one near Broken Hill I REALLY didn't want to repeat the experience.

We made it into Woolgoolga with plenty of time to find a place to stay. Having spent the last few nights in hostels and pubs, the girls decided to upgrade to something with an en-suite, luckily for me they were pretty fab about my budget and agreed for me to pay the same as before with them making up the extra amounts - cheers girls!
The motel we found had not only an ensuite, but (luxury of luxuries - foxtel and a swimming pool!) ok we never did use the swimming pool, but it was there for us to look at :o)
Vonnie's a bit of a bird-lover, so she was highly taken with the flocks of parrots that lived in the trees around the motel.
By the way, after seeing the plane on a pole in the last town of Wingham and taking a photo (last entry) we now found this helecopter on a pole outside our motel in the car park.
With thoughts turning (as they often do) to food, we spoke to the lady at reception who recommended the best pub in town (or the only pub in town) for our evening meal.
The food was fantastic - they had a live band on (Heckle and Jive) who were great, the locals were friendly, and we ended up drinking and dancing the night away up in the tavern.

Waking up the next morning we decided to stay on in Woolgoolga for an extra night to see a bit more of this fab little town. Considering the size of the population, there was actually a surprising amount to see and do, including an indian temple. What with the lie-in, wandering about the town, stopping for coffees and eating amazing food, we just about made it to the bottle shop for beer and slumped infront of the tv for a night of loafing.
It's a hard life, eh?
