Can you hear the thunder?

OK, so it wasn't thundering as I left the airport in Sydney, but it was overcast and cold (had to get my fleece out of my backpack) and I wondered if I'd made a terrible error in judgement leaving the heat of Thailand behind...

Still once I got to the hostel, I straight away met a guy who took me out for a pie floater (from Harry's - the first fast food place in Australia so I'm told) - the first meal I have eaten in Australia and apparently a bit of a speciality. Basically it was a steak pie with mashed potatoe and mushy peas, covered in gravy... divine!
After wandering the Kings Cross area of town for a while, I went out for a few drinks to celebrate my arrival in a new country (or just because I felt the need?) so it was off to the local Irish pub for a game of "Toss the Boss"
No - its not what you're thinking, It's not something you do to get a payrise ;o) Turns out you order your drinks and then flip a coin with the barman. If you win - the drinks are on the house. You lose -you pay! Marvelous concept! Needless to say I lost, but who cares? Was buying them anyway!
This morning I got up and went for a bit of a wander. I found a fantastic park, and as I was walking round a corner I happened upon the Opera House View image (see - Im even standing infront of it to prove i was there! Even though I do look like I'm about to take off) View image
Walked up to it, and had a bit of a mooch around. Its so bright in the sun - it throws the light right back at you, and is amazing to actually see in person.
Then I wandered though the Botanical Gardens View image. For those Billy Connelly fans, I went and found the writers walk View image and then did the touristy thing and got the picture of the opera house with the bridge across the top of it - I know it looks dark, but it was actually really sunny and warm, doh! Anyway - thats it for me for today - going out with some of the hostelers into Chinatown for dinner tonight...

Oh My God. I have so not been keeping up with developments south of the Border. I'm so sorry! Mary! You did it! I'm so proud of you Petal!

I've just sat here reading through your blog and looking at the pics, and I'm all welled up ... jeez lass, you look fantastic with a tan!

hey you!

Just got an email from Andy saying he had given you my blog address - glad to see you're mooching though :) hows Edinburgh treating you? Never thought you'd see me with a tan though I'll bet!

Oh Edinburgh is treating me very well. Bit stressed with work, but Sainsbury's Bank is being very good for me. Did Andy tell you I'm also - now brace yourself - not single? Yes, it happened, i fell for someone. He's an Ozzie boy, originally from North Queensland, right in the Outback, called Matt. He's quite frankly, bonkers.
I'm doing ok Doll, for the first time in yonks, life is very good. Completely sickening an all that :-)

No, No, No, just as there's always room for Jello, there's always time to look at naked, muscular, tanned male flesh :-) Bring it on!

Ah Sydney, the memoires....

If your planning on getting absolutely fucked up Lou, then head on down to scruffy murphy's and pull an all nighter :D

On the other hand, I thoroughly recommend a visit to Cronulla which is down by Woolongong (if your into mental names). Its muchos pretty and loads of dunes..

Jealous as a pauper in a room full of princes, Im ticking off the days like a prisoner until summer and hopefully a very FAT Aussie tax rebate .... mmmmm

Dan

PS. Melbourne. It'll be the best thing you ever did if your planning on working there...
I have muchos Legitimate contacts (and a few dicey ones too)
