Most of the changes are due to Russian visa issues: I had to return home because I didn't have my invitation yet before I left; my visa was valid for 2 weeks longer than I expected so I travelled all the way east before I went to Mongolia; and I couldn't return home overland because it was too hard to get another Russian visa in Ulaan Bataar (and the nearest Russian embassy is in Shanghai). But except for Riga I did see all of the imporant places on my original itinerary. Hopefully I can do a Baltic trip in 2005, filling up the "gap" between Warsaw and Helsinki or Moscow, and also someday get to Vladivostok and/or Beijing, as it seems sort of incomplete to have travelled along the trans-siberian and trans-mongolian routes that far but not having reached the end of either. But I had other priorities on this trip, and I can't really say I regret any of it. Comments
