November 23, 2004The rest of my life
This whole trip I've been wondering what I want to do with the rest of my life. And you know what: I'm still not sure. I know I don't want my old job back. I'm not quite sure if I want an office job at all, but if I do I at least want one where I can use my language skills. Problem is, the first language they're gonna ask for around here is French, and that is not my strong point. Do I even want to stay in Belgium for the rest of my life? One reason to say no to that, is that during this entire trip I barely suffered from allergies, and back home it seems like I'm sneezing all day. This country is litterally making me sick. A study showed that Belgium (or was it just Flanders?) is one of the most polluted regions in the world, along with China, north-America, and I think South-Africa was the 4th. Maybe I should move to Berlin or Poland for a while. But then what will I do there? I've been writing a lot, I would like to do something with that, but I realise I could probably never making a living off it. A Flemish travel magazine may let me write an article on hiking in the Slovak High Tatras. I sent them a link to the article I wrote for bootsnall, and they seemed to like it. I've also been looking into becoming a tour guide. I've an interview lined up for that in january or february. I'm sure it's hard work and it's not like travelling by yourself, but it does sound like a fun job, and one I would be good at. I have an interview for an office job tomorrow morning. They said a basic knowledge of Russian is a plus, I think a job where I could use my Russian is a plus, so we may come to an agreement :P And I have another interview for a temporary office job on friday morning. For now I'll just go with whatever I can get, and then just see how it works out. That seems to be a good idea when you're travelling, so why wouldn't it be in "real life"? Ok, I'll stop rambling now. Thanks for listening. Comments
