cow spotting

First thing on Friday morning I went out for a last wander around Mumbai, and saw my first cow! I had been thinking they were all hiding from me. By 6pm it was time to head to the station for the 26 hour train from Mumbai to Delhi...

I just made it in time - the traffic in the city was terrible - I ended up getting out of the cab and legging it to the station (not good with a backpack on). Finally finding the right platform, I only had about 2 minutes get on board. I jumped on the first carriage just as the train began to pull away and then started to look for my carriage.
I was traveling 3AC, and wasn't too sure what to expect. When I found my bunk (the top one) I collapsed and just caught my breath for a bit. After a while I got back down and started chatting to my fellow passengers. By 8pm a man came round with bedding, and the backs of the benches were hooked onto the top bunk to create 3 beds where each bench had been - there were 8 beds in my little bit of the train. By 10pm everyone was asleep. One of the men was snoring and giggling in his sleep, I have no idea what he was saying, but it must have been a great dream! I spent most of the next day chatting and snoozing.
Along the way there was some stunning scenery. Getting bored, I started to count the cows, but lost interest after about 100, it was a very long trip, and my cd player came out for the first time since the airport in Dubai. I was glad to finally arrive in New Delhi by 9pm. After a short autorickshaw ride to the hotel, I checked in, ate a huge meal, had my first beer since arriving in India, and collapsed into yet more sleep.
