Bus journey from Santiago to Salta.

May 10th, 2006

The bus journey from Santiago across the border into Salta, Argentina took a total of 27 hours (24 hours on a bus with a 3 hour stop in Mendoza) and is our longest journey so far and I tought it deserved a special mention because we went first class and got a seat that turned into a bed. Here is a picture of Kelly laying in the chair / bed !! Tupiza

May 21st, 2006

We crossed the border from Argentina into Bolivia and made our way to the train station so we could buy a ticket. We had heard that the roads in Bolivia are quite bad (only about 5% of them are paved or something) so did not want to get a bus. Read the rest of this entry »

Chilling

Since my last post we have not done anything really adventurous except explore a few more towns and cities. (and get lost a lot much to Kellys frustration at my map reading skills) After Uyuni we went to Potosi which is where most people go to do a tour of the silver mines. Read the rest of this entry »

We are now in La Paz which is the highest capital city in the world (4500 metres ASL). We had heard a lot of things about La Paz before we got here and not all of them were good. The Vanishing Camera !!!!

June 21st, 2006

A couple of days after I wrote the last post on La Paz we had our camera stolen which was a bit of a pain. We were at a big festival in the city and there were crowds of people and someone grabbed it out of the camera bag and ran off. There were so many people pushing around us I had no chance of catching them.

Thank god that we backed up the memory card after the salt flat trip or we would have lost so many memories. We had to stay an extra day in La Paz to get a police report for the insurance and to buy a new camera. Luckily I managed to find the same model camera so it worked out ok.

Since it happened I have been watching the camera like a hawk and keeping my hand over the bag. This is the first time we have had anything stolen in any country we have been to over the years. It had to happen sometime I suppose. We couldn´t beat the odds forever !!
