I don’t like cricket…

28 Mar – 31 Mar, 2005

Georgetown
One of the beautiful wooden buildings in Georgetown, capital of Guyana.

Well, originally we were only going to stay in Georgetown for the minimum time possible – It really doesn’t have a very good reputation. However, the lure of an International Test (cricket, that is) between South Africa and the West Indies was hard to refuse. This, coupled with the fact that we met some great people who have busied up our social lives like we haven’t had since Australia, led us to stay on.

The cricket was a great day, with an undermanned Windies team really giving it to the visitors. Wavell Hinds finished the day on 188 not out, and Chanderpaul’s celebrated his first day as captain with 102 at stumps. (Both continued the rampage in the following day, Windies declared with 4 wickets still in hand, and ended up bowling South Africa out twice without needing to bat again. Congratulations.)

\"I Don\'t Like Cricket\"
“I don’t like cricket, Oh no, I love it!” West Indies in what ended up being an unexpected (and extremely convincing) win over South Africa. Day 1 of the 1st Test.

Hi! My name is Thrudur and I’m a 23 years old girl from Iceland.

Saw you entered Guyana via Lethem.

I’m wanting to go to Guyana via Lethem from Boa Vista in Brazil but I’ve had such a problem finding something about that zone, and what I can do from there, without going to Georgetown.

please if you get this msg, mail me at thrudur84 at yahoo.com

    Hey there,

There is not a lot to do, you know – really, you could spend a short time in and around Lethem, but if there are no special festivals, then any further activities would cost a fair bit as you would need to arrange personal excursions. (i.e. trips to jungle, etc) These are probably easier and (slightly) cheaper arranged in Georgetown.

Time is needed if you travel overland from Lethem to Georgetown – this could take you 24 hours or more.

    Richard
