Prison islands

Îles du Salut, off the coast of French Guiana, were used by the French when they sent convicts to South America. Those who know the book or film, Papillon, will know of them. The islands are quite infamous. Deportation was stopped around 50 years ago, and nature is now reclaiming. Who knows how much longer the walls can stand up to the power of a growing jungle…

An eerie shape in the tree
An eerie shape in the tree. A knot of wood creates a scarey silouhette. Especially so when considered in the context that this was also in the abandoned prison on Île St Joseph.

Visited the European Space Agency, Kourou. Tour in French only. We managed to amuse ourselves by making up our own translations. We thought we were funny, anyway.
