Public Displays of Affection

Itīs just great to see happy couples in love. But, some people here in Spain bring the Seinfeld "Schmoopie" episode to an entirely new level. I feel like I am watching "Lady and the Tramp" 24/7, everywhere I go. I see two possible reasons why itīs like this here.

First, it seems like Europeans are a little more affection than Americans. Thatīs fine, I can deal with it.

Second, itīs common here for people to live with their parents until they are married. For this reason, there are many people in their late 20īs and early 30īs that still live with their family. If thatīs the case, I guess they take it to the streets.

When itīs warm out, it isnīt uncommon to walk through a park and see a couple all over each other on a park bench. There have been times when I really thought it was appropriate to walk up to them and make sure they had a condom...but, since I didnīt know how to say it in Spanish, I didnīt.

But, what I witnessed the other day was definitely a first. I was waiting for the Metro the other day and on the platform, directly across from me was a couple on a bench just hanging all over each other. Now, it wasnīt like it was late at night and we were the only people in the station. It was like 4pm. There were like a hundred people on each platform. It was like a train wreck or car accident...horrible, but I couldnīt look away. But, I was saved. Their train was arriving. Much to my dismay, the train left...WITHOUT THEM. Apparently, they decided that their make-out spot was such prime real estate, they couldnīt give it up yet. It got so bad that I actually got up and moved the other end of the platform just so they werenīt right in my line of sight. To my knowledge, they are still there right now groping each other violently.
