Size Matters

Isla Mujeres 001

When I see a fellow traveller with a teeny tiny pack, carrying only two pairs of underwear and a lighter, I feel like I’m back in middle school wearing my backpack on both shoulders instead of letting it hang off of one. Today, though, both Megan and I spotted plenty of people with packs that were bigger than ours. We’re obviously getting cooler. Score.

We’ve landed in Tulum, Mexico at a very cute hostel with free internet, free water, and free breakfast. We’ve already seen several people from our last hostel, so it’s shaping up to be just as great as Isla Mujeres. Here’s hoping.

hmmm free internet, free water, free breakfast. So, do they have a language school? Sounds like paradise to me. How was the bus ride?

I think your backpack may be lighter than what I stuffed into the little teardrop pack you got me yesterday.

I’m looking at your photos and getting more jealous all the time. It looks so summery!

    Have fun in Tulum.

Summery, it is. Like 90+ summery. Sarah is very tan, and I’m super freckly. And what did you stuff into your teardrop pack?

More on the hostel and various bus rides to come. Not quite as paradisical as it originally appeared…

Hmm…”not quite as paradisical as it originally appeared…”

I hope it isn’t too weird. No dive-bombing birds, lots of Swiss blonds.

In any case, my teardrop pack BARELY fits my computer, so I’ve been stuffing it in there, along with various power supplies and my little camera, three pairs of glasses (reading, computer distance, and every other distance—yes, I’m going blind), and a Weightwatcher guide to the point-values of every imaginable food (which I never use). Then there are the files for each project, my little radio, my iPod, pens, and business cards.

I wonder why it seems heavy.

Oh my!! 3 postings since we last checked, with hot sun, ruins, and a Swiss Miss or two to boot!

    Dear Lovely Lasses.

No one has a cooler computer bag than me. How can I describe it? It is somehow silkscreened with this awesome picture of a garage. Yes, a garage, like, where they fix cars. Which sounds dumb. And why is it on a computer bag? Who can say. But somehow it is totally, like, rad.

In other news, the leaves are all falling and it is cold and nobody has straw roofs. Rooves? Clearly, I need to go home and eat raw oysters from Seattle.

    Wish I were there
