November 15, 2004I did it!
So I did it! I got on the plane and flew to Thailand and I arrived and I was totally fine! Yahooo to me! I was still stressing pretty much the whole flight, and contemplating my arrival in Bangkok at the god aweful hour of 12 am! After reading countless articles from various people about the differnt touts at the Bangkok airport, and taxi drivers, I tried to keep it running in my head, to just line up in the taxi line, give them the address of the hostel and be on my way. But as luck would have it, my flight arrived early, I passed through customs with a breeze, exchanged a bit more money in a sort of ATM machine where you put money in right in the luggage area, picked up my bag and was outside walking past all of the taxi touts with my head held high by 12:05 am! Nothing too worry about! When I walked out of the airport, I saw the line for the taxi's, but realized I could still catch the last airport shuttle to my hostel at 12:30! What luck! But still no one approached me to try to get me to go with them, actually I don't recall anyone saying anything to me at all. Soon another couple sat down next to me, they too were taking the same shuttle. We sat and chatted for awhile until our bus came, they had just come from Seattle that morning. Yikes, talk about jet lag...thank goodness I didn't have any jet lag! We got off the bus at the same stop, none of us knew where we were going, so we just walked down the street together. I knew my hostel was located across from their hotel, so if they found it I would be O.K. too. We walked through a dark construction site to get to their hotel, don't worry, that wasn't the real entrance. Once inside I asked where my hostel was and was pointed in the right direction, just outside and across the street! Found it no problem! Check in and was in bed by 2:30 am. Aghhhh! I can relax now! Well at least a little anyways! Comments
