The Tail End in the North

So the time in Thailand is slowly coming to an end here. Nicola and I finally got out of Mae Hong Son after spending over a week in that sleepy little town. Passed through Pai where we spent one night there on our fast trip back to Chiang Mai (we were quite happy, or at least I was, that we had originally took the route through Mai Sariong earlier on the way to Mae Hong Son. While the scenery on the route through Pai was much more beautiful, the winds and turns and death defying looks out the window everytime I could open my car sick eyes was not enough to convince me that that was a better route, despite it being about 3 hours quicker!)

Finally picked up my passport from the Chinese embassay when we arrived back into Chiang Mai. And then we were off again the next day to Chang Rai....even more north. One day we headed up to the Golden Triangle so looking out onto the Mekong River you could see Myranmar and Laos as we were standing in Thailand. And we went to the northern most point in Thailand, where you can cross the border into Myranmar for the day...but decided against it, since we all know I definately don't need anymore stamps in my passport! We stayed in a strange Guest House in Chang Rai, called the Mae Hong Son Guest House of Chang Rai. Stange in the fact because we think someone was in our room. Upon our arrival back to our room at night after going to the Golden Triangle we found a pack of cigerettes on our bathroom floor, which were not wet, despite the three showers that we had taken since we arrived there. Sketchy! Nicola was on a dectective hunt from then on, leaving traps everywhere incase someone else came in, we would know, placing folded papers on the window sills of the windows that didn't lock, placing a clay pot lid in front of our bathroom door, which couldn't be replaced if someone had to escape out the bathroom through the giant hole between the ceiling and the wall, amongst other things! After nothing had been move, she moved on in her thinking that maybe it was a poltergheist!!! Luckily nothing else happened, and we checked out after a few days. Next stop the Laos border!
