If I had a baht….

IF I HAD ONE BAHT FOR EVERY…..
…freckle on my polychromatic skin
…time that “Life is Gooood!” has run through my head
…cut, bruise, burn, and blister on my ill-treated legs
…other calf in Thailand with a motorbike burn in the exact same place
…menu listing Danish food in Phuket
…shiny new “Tsunami evacuation route” sign
…minute that Kristin and I spent searching for “mango with sticky rice”
…unnecessary “necessity” in my overly huge backpack
…call of “cheap cheap” from streetside shops
…”cheap cheap” lady on the streetside

…THEN I’D BE A RICH, RICH WOMAN (BUT ONLY IN THAILAND) ; )

Last few days we’ve been patting ourselves on the back for being flexible people as our plans swirl and spit us out in sometimes unexpected places. Right now Kristin and I are on Koh Phi Phi, one of the most popular, most tsunami-damanged islands in Thailand. I dove myself here from Phuket to help erase my humorously tragic memories of diving on Koh Phangan where the visibility was so bad that I had to stay within 2 feet of my divemaster’s yellow fins and literally saw nothing else….including the coral that poked and nibbled some skin. Now those memories are thankfully replaced by images of huge limestone cliffs, miniature 1/4 inch clownfish, azure anemones, and a divemaster who actually BRIEFED us before every dive rather than just announcing, “yeah, ok, we go.” Tomorrow we head out to Krabi for some adventure playing–kayaking through caverns, rock-climbing pinnacles. Unless you’re my mother. Then we’re going to read on the beach….with 40 spf sunblock. ; )
