You know you’re in Eastern Europe when…

  • All females are wearing high heels, miniskirts and low cut tops at all times of the day
  • Leopard print is still in fashion
  • there is a street named after a date in 1989, ie. “31 August 1989”
  • there is a lot of fountains
  • Beer is cheaper than water and sold in 2L bottles
  • Every park and intersection has a giant revolution monument
  • People use trolley buses as the main form of public transport
  • The best thing your guidebook can suggest is to go to bars and clubs as the “nightlife is unbeatable”
  • Waiters and any service people are at best rude to you, or totally ignore you
  • There are flags everywhere, especially EU ones, even if the country is not, and probably never will be part of it
  • the currency has recently been revised by cutting off at least 6 zero’s
  • All people older than 25 speak Russian
  • most people younger than 25 want to leave
  • A large proportion of older people have their entire wealth in the form of gold teeth
  • You get the feeling that its still 1992

A few observations…I will add to I’m sure.

Oh some of those are just mean lol

Ok we did cut some zeros but only 4 🙂 And you are right abt skimpy outfits but don’t put all women in that “bowl” lol

You are right abt ppl wanting to leave but I’m 27 and still fancy the thought lol

I’m 27 and DO NOT SPEAK RUSSIAN. Actually I write in English for my work 😀

Your post sounds more like places to the East of Romania although we are considered Eastern Europe. Technically we are more like in the Center of the continent actually.

OK this is based entirely upon my very limited travel and huge generalisations and stereotypes….so don’t be too offended! although you are welcome to come to NZ and stereotype us! and really Moldova and the Ukraine really are like this…haha!
