Fighting off River Pirates with Alligator swords

July 18th, 2007

We didn´t actually fight, or even see any pirates, but i thought i´d try to get you hyped up for this next excellent episode.

I flew from La Paz to Rurre on a tiny little plane full of a massive tour group of Israelis who were all over 50 except for one guy who would have been about my age. He wore an inflatable pillow around his neck on and off the plane. Upon arriving in some airport not in Rurre, i had to get into Rurre. I ended up riding in the back of a station wagon which was an interesting and uncomfortable experience.

Puno > Copa-Copacabana > La Paz

July 16th, 2007

It´s 6 am or something like that and I just got off a bus ride on one of the worst roads in the world, it was unsealed for 15 hours. So this is by far the best time to update the blog.

I think I left you in Cuzco (woops, 2 weeks ago) so I´ll go from there.
Left Cuzco by train for Puno. It was a really lovely journey, I´ll do train over bus any day. Puno on the other hand, was not so nice. Other people said it wasn´t too bad and I didn´t hit the main street, but it didn´t seem like much fun and the room i stayed in had no windows which was strange.

Oh the Guilt – here is Cuzco!

June 28th, 2007

I feel that I have been guilt tripped into updating sooner rather than later, which is good as things will be fresher in my mind. All the same, so much has happened that this may not be the most detailed of posts. let´s call it highlights.

I´m too tired to do a real post.

June 27th, 2007

Ok, so I´m a bit no good at this, but I will be posting a detailed account of my adventures in Cuzco soon, perhaps tomorrow or in Puno. I´m just too tired now as I went up Machu Picchu today and climbed a mountain, I also saw a man in a kilt. Photos will come when I can be motivated to do so. MP was amazing, as was Inti Raymi, everything is beautiful. Hopefully I will be in Bolivia by the end of the week.
Sorry,

Arequipa – or how I bought my first knife

June 22nd, 2007

So i’m going to split the last few days into two posts for two different cities, Arequipa and Cuzco.
Arequipa was breautiful, a really lovely city with very friendly people. Got there very early one day after an overnight bus. I actually got really lucky on the bus and got upgraded to Royal Class or Somethiing or other. Instead of being stuffed into a seat upstairs with only enough leg room for a Peruvian (not much), i was downstairs in a great bed like recliner. So I did manage to get some sleep which was good. Unfortunatly, there was also a guy behind me who was snoring pretty impressivly, I thought he was going to stop breathing.

Lima->Huacachina->Nazca

June 17th, 2007

I left Lima on the 15th (I think, I`ve lost track of things a bit) for Ica, where I wasn´t actually going, where I was going was Huacachina, an Oasis in the desert. Read the rest of this entry »

Lima part two *brought to you by Coca tea*

June 14th, 2007

You know that Goo Goo Dolls song Iris where it goes ¨and you bleed just to know your alive¨and it´s from some movie with Nicholas Cage. Well. in Lima, the taxis beep just to let you know that they´re right behind you and available.
Last night i went out for a few drinks with 3 American girls from Florida who are also at my hostel. Lima wasn´t that hoppin´, but there were lots of places that were open, just not full in any sense of the word. but we found a good one and had some Cervezas. An Australian guy (or so he said) came and said hello and claimed he was from Manly. He didn´t sound very Australian, but i am inclined in some ways to believe him as there seems to be an Australian everywhere i go, though they are far outnumbered by Americans. We then went to a pirate themed bar for a while. I learnt some strange American customs that I will have to share upon my return. Read the rest of this entry »
