1st Week of Class

A few things I learned during the 1st week of my class.

#1 - If you come to madrid to teach English, DO NOT TAKE YOUR CLASS THROUGH EBC. EBC language services (www.ebc-tefl-course.com) sucks. And when I say they suck, I mean they really suck.

Example - they provide very little in the way of resources. Now sure, I can understand they are a business and the aim of business is to make money. So, when they said we´d be charged for photocopies we make while teaching, I thought "eh...not ideal, but understandable." Then I was told what we´d be charged. The dirty little bastards! €.20 per copy. That´s about $.25 a copy. Turns out I was confused...I thought they said we´d be "charged" for copies when they actually said "anally raped". My mistake. The Office Depot directly across from our school charges €.05.

#2 - I actually forgot how much I despise school and sitting in a classroom listening to someone talk. 7 hours of it makes me want to jump off a bridge.

#3 - Teaching is pretty cool. My beginner class the other day was very limited. For anyone out there who has seen the movie "Stripes", it is very similar. I think for my next lesson we are just going to start singing crappy American songs that people in other countries seem to love (think "Macarena" but even I wouldn´t be able to take that).

#3 - DON´T USE EBC. They suck. I am learning how to teach English from a Uncle Fester looking Norwegian, a half Canadian half Hungarian women (she actually knew Kaiser Sooze though) and a Argentinian women who sweats like George W. Bush when asked to calculate the square root of 9.
