Jin Ken

PB270810 (Small).JPGOn Sunday we went to another little village, Jin Ken. Jin Ken is part way to Lishui and is also Jimmy's home town. His grandmother is not well so he has been making regular trips home. (Grandparents do a lot of the child rearing as both parents work.)

The village is much smaller than Qingtian and the main attraction is a hydro dam. It's been there for years so any controversy like the Bei Shan dam is long forgotten. We met Jimmy's dad by coincidence as we drove through the township, Jimmy yelled "Ba Ba" and we stopped. Piled out to a lot of stares and hand shakes and chatted freely.

Their home is very old and in the basement they a really preparing for Chinese New Year. There is a huge ceramic pot of rice wine brewing, it has another month to ferment before straining. Hard to believe it begins looking like raspberries and finishes clear like vodka.

Jimmy's mum was out in the field, so we ventured up to take a look at the dam. It was strange we could climb down into it and safety was not of the essence.

Wang Dan's nephew Ze Bo was having a great time running around and using the binoculars.

On our return to Jimmy's home for a meal, there were more people taking a gander at us, but like many little villages the stares are genuine and of intrigue not rude and intruding.
