July 30, 2005Finally Arrived
I finally arrived in Qingtian after short stops in Brunei, Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Let's just say Chinese road conditions have not improved nor have the calibre of vehicles. The 3 hour trip from Kowloon to Guangzhou took six. A couple of truck accidents and a bus toppled over were the cause in the delay. YY a young man sitting next to me and I ended up pushing a truck out of the way. Otherwise I dare say we may still be on the highway. My first night in Qingtian we went straight to the river for dinner with Mr Fish. Must say though we don't eat under the bridge anymore. Trev and 'the men' had been requesting cold beers for night after night and still the beer was warm. So they have spoken with their feet and gone further down the river to a restaurant which assures them of cold beer. Same style of outdoor eating with the same amount of staring. A meal of cicades and mao yu (the bulbs of elephant ear plants) and I was definitely feeling right at home. Comments
