Mid Autumn Festival

Mid Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. It is said that the moon is at it's biggest and brightest at this time of year. The Chinese have a family celebration on this day where they gather around, eat only round things on this day and have an outdoor party in the evening to watch the moon.

The story behind Mid Autumn Festival is the earth once had 10 suns and was in grave danger of dying out. Rivers had dried, it hadn't rained in years and people were starving. The Emperor asked a great archer named Hou Yi to shoot down 9 of the 10 suns. As his reward the Emperor gave him a magic pill. Hou Yi's girlfriend Chang Er ate the pill and began to float. She could not stop and found that she had floated/flown all the way to the moon. This was to be her new home she could not return to earth. Hou Yi was in love and would watch the moon each night thinking of her. Becuase Hou Yi had saved the world from a great catastrophe people watch the moon with him and thank him and celebrate his loss of Chang Er.

What we did? We ate a few moon cakes, played with the kids at the Kindy and then went on to the Senior school's party on the sports ground.

The moon was said to be the brightest moon for the past 14 years.
