How cute are they

Mang Di.jpgWe live at the school amongst the other Chinese teachers. Our accomodation is small and initially was substandard. We have since had mod cons connected and bought new things like linen as all the bedding was mouldy. The room has had a good air out and is now filled with "closet camels" to combat the humidity. Now it's really quite homey.

The best part of our accomodation is the grassed area at our front door. There are concrete tables and chairs on grass under some trees. It's really great. At night people come out and chat, play cards or just do some exercise. Amongst the elder women "hula-hooping" is the favourite, our newly adopted Chinese Mum, Miss Zhu has her hulahoop attached to her waist almost 24 7. It's also popular amongst the not so old. There are always a heap of kids running around. Most of the kids are either too young to go to kindy or are kindy kids who have escaped boarding school for the night. There is no 7:30 bed time for the kids here, they are up well past 9:30 even on school days. I guess the lunch time siesta compensates a little for this, but it is still strange. Each night we get a few visits from the kids(L-R Little Mang Di, Wendy, Superman and Karen). Superman is so called because when the kids play chasie he actually launches himself at the girls. We chase them and muck around with them. Squealing is essential!!
