July 28, 2004Culture Show
We went to a Culture Show in Chengdu. It was a great show in an open air teahouse/theatre. Previously we've seen both Beijing and Sichuan Opera. I confess I'm not a fan of either - nor can I tell the difference in either. To me it's just ear shattering noise of squelas and drums with really interesting costumes and very bad makeup. The show started with ear shattering opera and immediatley I thought what have a I got myself in to. But lucky enough it stopped about 15 minutes later and the rest of the show was filled with puppeteers, fire blowers, shadow puppets which put to shame the little rabbit I can make, and a mask show where two men danced around and changed faces. The show was great. Comments
