August 05, 2004Terracotta Warriors
Well we've finally done it! We've seen the pottery army from 3000 years ago and I must confess I'm a little sceptical. They are amazing perhaps too amazing. The background story is 4 peasant farmers were digging a well in 1974, the area was in drought and they were desperate. When suddenly they uncover some strange pottery further investigation and archeological help they found 8000 terracotta figures in 3 pits protecting the tomb of the first Emperor. Every face on the soldiers is different, there are different styles according to if the figure was a general, officer or regular foot soldier. They've included horses and chariots with drivers. It's really breath taking. But my sceptism comes from how and why? Current China would not be able to organise the building of something this great. So how did they manage it so long ago - they loved the Emperor he's unified them and it was his idea. Comments
