July 19, 2004Shanghai
We arrived in Shanghai on Friday morning to collect Pete and make a run for it to Guilin. Unfortunately train tickets were scarce so we had to stay 4 days there. Shanghai is just a huge expensive city. We did find reasonably cheap accomodation though even though our preferred Captain's Hostel was fully booked. We stayed at a place behind the library which was super convenient - located near markets, pubs and the metro. The four of us managd to do some sight seeing, we went to the Bund and saw Pearl Tower and out to a Mausoleum. Trev and I hooked into western food for a few days and we got sick as the old stomach wasn't used to it. Sumo was relieved to get away from cicadas. snails, and duck tongue for a few days. Comments
