Uber super hyper party

The massed throngs have descended upon Koh Pagnan, the fire works are being lit, the samsong and redbull buckets are being prepared. It is time for the full moon party.

The island itself seems relatively nice, that is of course, if you discount the Ibiza element.

This element is the sprawling mass of lobster red bodies that have crammed onto full moon beach over the last few days, getting boats in from Koh Tao, Koh Samui and the mainland to enjoy one of the biggest, and most prolific, parties that SE Asia has to offer. While I may sound like I’m whining about the crowd, I am, unfortunately and inescapably, one of them.

Some happy events have occurred since landing on this rock though, we met up with Carys and Alice, two friends from back home who are in their penultimate week of a six month trip. They seem very worldly and wise now, while you can still see the green flecks on mine and Lauren’s hue.

Also, we bumped into a buddy from Laos on the beach, Laura (Northern Irish,)her and her friend are here for the party and then heading back to Koh Tao after, so I’m sure we shall see more of them. She did give us a stark warning though, her personal effects were stolen from right next to her along the beach. This included her passport. To make matters even more infuriating for her, a local then came and handed her passport back to her, him clearly being the one that stole her stuff and then felt bad for taking the passport as well as her credit/debit cards, cash and camera.

This reminds me, yesterday after finishing breakfast, we saw a guy, probably a little younger than me and with no tan-indicating a new arrival to Thialand- in just his boxers. Apparently, he had been at a pool party the previous night and had jumped in for at most a minute. When he got back all his clothes, money and room keys were gone. Thus leaving him moneyless, with no way of getting into his room (he needed to pay the hotel 500 baht to break the lock, but his money had been stolen, hence the catch 22.) Yea he was stupid to leave his stuff, but its not a million miles away from something that maybe we would have done with a few shandy’s inside us. Thankfully, nothing of the sort has happened yet, and our hotel is sufficiently away from the action of the big party (around 35 minute drive) that we don’t need to really fear some shady characters getting our stuff when others are much closer at hand.

Hopefully.

Away from the doom and gloom though and we are looking forward to an awesome night, we’re not starting drinking until quite late with the ultimate aim to see sunrise, which will, with any luck, give us inspiration through our day-long hangover which is due to begin around midday tomorrow.
