Waking up at un-godly hours
Thursday, October 30th, 2008The jobhunt continues. We woke up at an unprecidented 8:30 am this morning in order to get going. More money needs to be taken out of our savings ASAP to pay for our flights to Brisbane, but if we wait any longer then prices will skyrocket. The guy in the travel agents told us yesterday that in Oz, there isn’t any such thing as last minute deals. The airline would rather sell one ticket on the entire plane for $3000 than a load of them for $20. As of yesterday it was $220 each for tickets, so thats not so bad. (Keep telling yourself that, Mike.)
Viewing the new apartment today, from what we’ve heard, it overlooks some lovely Melbourne skyline. If we do need to get that today, then it’s at no snip cost. A straight up fee of $1500 for 3 months rent and deposite and all the other bits. Luckily, there’s a cash tree growing outside our dorm. Shame I can’t find the Cyclop’s tears necessary to water it with.
The hostel we are in, Cooee is, well, it’s clean and nice. The rooms are lovely, as is the shared bathrooms. Sadly, it is heavily let down by the backpackers residing there. True, many seem to be genuinely friendly and nice. There’s a sizable portion though that constantly stink of cheap boxed wine, adore the feel of a football shirt on their chests and do the sorts of things reserved for 1st year uni. It was fun when I was 18, but…
Snob, thats what you’re looking for, Lauren and I are absolute snobs and we’re in a hostel comprising significantly of utter yobs. It’s like watching an American high school movie, but instead of attractive people getting into funny situations, it’s ugly people with ugly tattoo’s being sick at the end of the hall. We prefered the bloody Ra’s of Thailand. (Those A-level rich kids, complaining about how ‘daddy wouldn’t buy me a pony.’)
Saying that though, we are in the backpacker region of Melbourne. Hopefully, it will ease up when we move out of St Kilda, which oddly reminds me of a large version of the high street where I live. Same kind of quirky looking clothes shops, bars, and cool kids with ‘haircuts.’
