Melaka

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Got on a bus that was nicer than the room we had had in K.L. and made our way down to Melaka. Had a brief stroll around the place earlier, much less noise than K.L. (don’t get too excited though, there’s still one of those lovely air-con megamalls within 500m,) and there’s plenty of museums and whatnot to,hopefully, keep us entertained for the next 5 days while we wait out our flights to Oz.

Still can not get over how much I love the Indian food out here, nor that it is nearly Oz time. I know it marks only 4 1/2 months on the road, but its Asia over and Oz beginning, so that is clearly in every book but the literal one, half way through our adventure. A scary thought indeed.

We’re staying in a hostel a little out from the town center (it’s cheaper) and it has some pretty sweet communal areas which I promptly fell asleep in, book resting against chest, the second we sat down earlier. Hard life, non?

A momentus occasion for anyone traveling in S.E. Asia (or Africa for that matter!)

After long months of excruciatingly vivid dreams, Lauren and I have finally finished our course of Doxycycline, the once daily anti-malarial drug that everyone and their mother takes when traveling (if they take any at all.) Admitedly, our last batch was bought in Vietnam and was a distinctly different shade of green than anyone else’s that I had seen, and probably contained nothing more helpful in the fight against malaria than sherbert, but finally, at long last, after all, we made it. No. More. Doxy!

Another day another megamall in Kuala Lumpur. Today we went to the Time's Square one which boasts it's very own theme park. Admittedly it looked a little more Peter Pan's Playground than Alton Towers, but it was still cool to ... [Continue reading this entry]
