Oh Lordey Lord, please stop a’ rainin’ on me
Seriously, it was absolutely lashing it down when we got into KL at around half 4 today. We were meant to get here at 2:30 but the driver was nothing short of pure evil. For real.
First off, he yells at us to put our bags in the side of the bus, we do, but then realize that the latch isn’t closing the door. The driver then yells at us again to get on the bus.
‘Are our bags safe?’ we ask as he yells some more.
En masse, we decide to get off the bus and get our bags, he yells more.
A few hours later, he stops off for a 10 minute break.
30 minutes later he stops the bus and gets off, not saying a word to anyone. Everyone onboard, locals included, look to each other to work out what’s going on. Someone see’s the driver has just ordered himself some food from a stall where we are parked. Seems it’s lunch break , 20 minutes, but the driver didn’t tell us so now we’ve got 10 minutes. Lauren and I mug it off, staying on the bus, just as well, some poor sod had just ordered food when the driver got back on the bus, started firing the horn and reversing away from the unlucky traveler. Like I said, driver was pure evil. Worse still fellow travelers, is that I think it’s just that one company that goes from the Cameron Highlands to KL so you’ll probably be stuck with the moron yourselves…
Upon arrival, a group of English people we have been chatting with are staying at some place and we all follow some local to a guesthouse. We tell him that if it’s not nearby we’ll just get a taxi. He assures us it’s close. Bear in mind that it is raining so hard that Lauren’s shoe came off at one point, swept away by the undercurrent of a mini-river and that visibility is down to about 5 meters. ‘Close’ to the man is a 10 minute walk. Everyone seems pretty annoyed by the time we get there, a taxi would have only cost about 30p.
Still, we get a free dinner tonight because it’s a Friday, apparently. Hopefully it will be substantial, I’m starving like Marvin.
