thank goodness for that

Did you know that the WHO accepted level of immunity for rabies is 0.5 international units per ml (IU/ml)? Nor did I until today.

We have just been notified that the boys’ levels are 1.4, 1.4, 1.5, 1.8 and 1.8.
The girls raced away with the top scores: 2.8, 3.6 and 3.8 (the two little girls didn’t require testing, but I’m sure their numbers would be up there too)

Of course that is not a license to go out looking for wild dogs – we’d still need another two shots if we did get bitten, and if rabies does develop it’s fatal. But at least we’ve bought ourselves a bit of time to get to a medical facility, a handy thing when we’ll be out trekking who-knows-exactly-where in Asia and a couple of days from civilisation on a ranch in Mongolia.
