eights kids eight kms two ticks

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Ticked off the To Do List……make sure everyone can walk ?????km. We don’t actually have a set amount, but we did eight kilometres today and everyone down to T3 managed it without a murmur, so we’re a few steps closer. In another month or so we’ll be doing the Coast to Coast, which is 16km, so perhaps that’s our goal.

Also ticked off today…….well, not exactly ticked off, but one of our goals is to make sure the kids will try anything foodwise. Out of eight, we only have one who can be a bit reticent about really hot curries, and the smallest one does not do bland. Other than that, they give anything a go. A moving description in “The Clay Marble” of boiled rice with dried fish fried in chillies and garlic inspired tonight’s dinner menu (although we had the luxury not afforded to Cambodians in a refugee camp of supplementing ours with some Chinese Cabbage, which is growing prolifically in the garden).  The little two potential-fusspots hoed in and came back for seconds and thirds. Tick. Tick.

itinerary updated

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

The published itinerary now reflects the metamorphosis our ideas have gone through from starting with three months teaching in China to what is now a full six month excursion around the whole of South East Asia.
The Mongolian winter has been whittled down to a month in spring (although I’ve read spring doesn’t start until May, so we might not be missing winter).
The GREAT Britain Pilgrimage remains the same – of course, it really would be good to do over the course of a year instead of two months, but we can’t afford to eat in England for too long, so a flying visit it will be!
Europe…..we still have no idea where we’ll go.
Finish date…..let’s just say, we don’t have return tickets 😉

Thoroughly frustrated, but confident that the late hour was a contributor to our inability to *make it work*, we went to bed. It should have been a simple matter. Passport photos for all. Of course we could have gone into a Passport-Making-Place ... [Continue reading this entry]

She was so impressed at the children's determination to save up enough money to go to Disneyland that one of Rob's work colleagues gifted them a handmade-by-her-husband-elephant-bank to keep their savings in. Thanks Mrs S! We ... [Continue reading this entry]
