JAMBO!!

Flying, landing, driving in the dark lent to opening Uganda yesterday morning. Fat cranes bending tiny branches, baby siamese bananas for breakfast, perfect tomato pyramids in markets by the side of the road….

Uganda–uh, central? Africa–is where my dad does some service projects: my Why?!? for being here with him, my mom and sister. Yesterday we went to Nakabongo, a tiny little village where they welcomed us with gutteral yips, drumming, dancing hugs, personalized songs, big brown-eyed, white-toothed grins…. It was absolutely the most amazing reception I will be ever be a part of…unless I marry royalty someday. Also had a full “Nile Experience”–viewed “THE SOURCE,” dined by its banks, drank a “Nile Special” beer, and ate a huge fish that used to be its resident, going to sleep with it running past my room. It’s actually a pretty eyeful here of leafy greens, hills, bright trees, funky birds….Also hard to believe I was hotter in Austin, TX than in Africa!!

Today, we head back to that village (could they possible have the stamina to do that two days in a row?!?) to do crafts with the kids while the women are learning things like making peanutbutter and soap (printing pics and playing with foam stickers is definitely more in my area).

Walaba!
Cindy (aka funny-looking-white-chic-who-takes-lots-of-photos)……(although you woudn’t yet believe that)

    Cindy,

It was so good hearing from you and thanks for sharing news about your travels. I had to laugh at the narrative of your departure from the Great Land. Brought back memories of my own last summer =) Have fun and stay wide eyed with wonder as you explore our big, interesting planet.

    Take care,
    Kim
