Addicted?

Osaka… this is already a special place in the world for me. I’ve been playing music at live houses and bars every other night. When I’m not behind a drum kit, a large portion of my time has been spent drinking mass quantities of shochu and eating delicious meals with my friends. Everybody is friendly here; there is a sizable Aussie expat crowd and the local Japanese are unlike the majority of Tokyo-ites (whos friendly outlook is cold in comparison to Kansai). [read on]

Goodbye Tokyo, Hello Taiko!

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Goodbye Tokyo!  The plan is to stop back at Mt. Fuji, and stay at the Solar Café for a few days before hitching down to Kansai region.  Mihye was going to come along for a short escape from the city, and to finally see this farm I’ve been talking about for the last couple months.   I packed my bag, mailed a few gifts home, and picked her up before boarding a bus back to Yamanashi.    [read on]

11.19 – A Walk in the Park

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

Not a single day so far has been a disappointment. Each moment has been drastically different than the last. Today was no exception…

Directly in front of the hostel was a parade/demonstration to change a local law involving child custody rights. Pretty random, but only held interest for so long.

I met with Melissa, who spent the morning befriending a cool girl from Canada named Emily. The three of us decided to find some food. A few minutes into our walk we drawn to the sound of live music coming from the nearby Plaza De La Reina. We found a lot of people hanging out continuing the demonstration that we witnessed earlier. We only stayed a short while… enjoying the beautiful weather, and listening to the sounds Sml speaker of a funk band.

After we found our meal in a sub shop, we decided to head to the Turia Gardens. As we strolled through the park we came across a variety of unexpected locales and interesting characters. [read on]

11.15 – Palecio Real De Madrid!

6:35p – La Pancita Cantina – I have just found a quaint little backstreet Mexican restaurant with low prices. Still not Spanish food, but I’m getting closer. While waiting for my cuitlacoche and vegetarian tacos to arrive, I’ve been reflecting on the day. It hasn’t been as social as yesterday, but it has been perfectly enjoyable to wander the city on my own… it was also a great excuse to put the digital SLR into action. [read on]
