Yummy Chocolate

September 4th, 2005

We had been waiting for the day that we go to Torino’s Chocolate Store. I hear that every single chocolate in the store tastes like heaven. When we got there we were alarmed to see that there was nobody inside the store except the owner and us.

Whale of a Good Time

September 2nd, 2005

It’s this time of year that’s whaling season in Cape Town. So since some friends of ours came to visit we decided that we should go see the whales. We first started at our house and then worked our way along the coast looking for them. Unfortunately we saw no whales along the coast but we did see great views of the water. Discouraged that we hadn’t seen whales we stopped for lunch at a seafood restaurant. Italian Ice Cream at the shop followed this.

Island of Rememberance

September 1st, 2005

Apartheid was from 1948 to 1991. Apartheid was the separation of non-whites (colored, Asian, and blacks) from whites. During Apartheid, Robben Island became a place of history, and has been ever since. During the time of Apartheid, Robben Island was used as a prison. Robben Island has not always been used for a prison though. The island has also been used as a hospital for wacky people and for people with leperacy. The island was also used for a training and defense station for World War II.

Awesome Aquarium

September 1st, 2005

Today we go to the Two Oceans Aquarium. After we got in we went upstairs to the top floor to watch penguins being fed. We got one of the spots in the front to watch the penguins from. Some of the smaller penguins couldn’t eat the fish because they were too big for them to swallow. Also there was a fish about twice the size of the largest penguin there.

Penguin Patrol

September 1st, 2005

Today we went to Boulders Beach to watch African penguins. As we got onto the beach dad spotted the first penguins. They were tiny little things. They were the size of an adult male’s thigh. One of the three was pregnant and the other two almost never stopped squirming about. After a time the penguin watching crew had enlarged to about fifteen people. The penguins had just retreated to the ocean, so we thought that the crowd increase had disturbed them. Now it was time to go to the penguin reserve 200ft down the beach.

Lunch – Friends – Sun !

September 1st, 2005

Today our friends invited us over for lunch. We didn’t come empty handed; we had purchased flowers for them. When we are arrived at their front door, they let us in and we handed the flowers to their mom. Alexa and I ran to their back yard to play with Jarrod and Kelsey while waiting for lunch to be finished. We sat down and ate a most appetizing meal of salad, chicken fingers, BBQ kabobs, baguette and large strawberries.

Cape Town is one of the capitals of South Africa. It is the southern most city in Africa. It is very large and has mountains everywhere. The Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean meet here at the Cape of Good Hope. The ocean water here is freezing cold. That’s because it just came from Antarctica.

Soweto or South Western Township is a town near the big city of Johannesburg. After reading a lot about the town of Soweto we thought it would be a good place to see and take pictures. We figured that taking a private tour that lasted half the day would be a good idea.
